How to open a Mazda Key Fob

If you've noticed that your Mazda key fob isn't working with ease, or its operational indicator light isn't blinking, you may require a replacement battery. Fortunately, this is one of the easiest tasks to do at home with a few basic tools.

The Mazda key fob is powered by a CR2025 that can be found in most stores or on websites that sell batteries. They cost around $4 for a box of four, and are available in different sizes.

Open the Mazda key fob with an affixed flathead screwdriver. Press the key auxiliary button on the back of the fob in order to remove the metal auxiliary key, then use your screwdriver to break the case on both sides. Be sure to work in a slow manner so that you don't cause damage to the case and to prevent the screwdriver tip from getting scratched.

After opening the key fob case remove the old battery. Make sure that the rubber ring the battery is attached to is in good condition. Insert mazda 2 car key battery in the correct direction, making sure that the positive side is facing you. Replace the case and re-cover the screwdriver, and then put everything back together as directed in the manual of your owner for your Mazda CX-5 or other model.

Battery Replacement

Ignition Replacement

For the most part, it is fairly easy to replace the battery in a car key fob, and you can do it at home without the need of a professional. A lot of experts recommend having an extra battery in your home. You can purchase them at most hardware stores. This will reduce the expense of replacing a fob, which can be up to $500 for luxury models and $250 for the more affordable cars.

If the key is stuck in the ignition, it might be more difficult to remove. Modern ignitions are sophisticated systems that require a series of movements to function effectively. If something interferes with the operation, like an ignition lock pin that is broken or a damaged key, the ignition could jam and the key could become trapped.

If the ignition is damaged, you'll have to get it repaired or replaced. This is a difficult task which is dependent on the type and make of your vehicle. Some dealerships provide this service, however it's usually more expensive than hiring an independent mechanic.

In addition to the cost of the replacement or rebuilt ignition, you will also require a locksmith to program the new key. If your car does not have an ordinary ignition system this will be impossible to accomplish at home.
